Week in the life of a 30-Year old Architect working in Hyderabad, India

Written by Mohini, Edited by Aliya @archistudentnotes

This week we have a submission from our first Architect: Mohini, a 30-year old Architect living and working in Hyderabad, India.

Would you have tackled the week any differently?

Monday

I wake up at 6:30am. Oh well, my dog wakes me. Feed him and I do some stretches while my husband takes him for a walk.

I cook and clean my home and then I start my work with a cup of tulsi and ginger tea.

Mondays are generally lots and lots of calls, emails and follow ups and I usually make my checklist/ agenda for the week.

Prepped for a hopefully productive week!

Tuesday

I have an early morning BNI meeting where we exchange referrals and talk business, network and meet new people.

Tuesdays are generally slow in terms of designing and work but it is filled with a lot of networking.

I travel around the city and if I do find a home/furniture store on the way - I check it out.

Wednesday

Up at 6:30am.

Same schedule as Monday (generally lots and lots of calls, emails and follow ups) but with a lot more creativity. Design, sketches,3D work.

There are also site visits scheduled sometimes.

In Hyderabad, I realised many like meetings towards the evening, considering the heat. Bangalore was a little different.

Note from Aliya: Know when to schedule your meetings to ensure they are as productive as they can be. No point scheduling a meeting for a Friday afternoon for example if you know everyone is mentally finished for the week!

Thursday

Morning routine. Design grind.

In our line of work, there are a lot of surprises that we need to embrace. I personally like it and I don't plan my day to the T because it's usually uncertain.

I do however have deadlines for what needs to be done for each project.

Friday

It's a happy day!

I generally wait for the work day to end. We work on more fun things.

I had a quiz lined up for my staff (I recently relocated so I do miss those days).

We work on lighter aspects, checking drawings and understanding what needs to be done the following week and looking back at what was done the previous week. It helps me understand the abilities of everyone working in the firm and how we could improve.

And that’s the week!

Thank you so much to Mohini for this weeks submission from our first Architect!
