Week in the life of a 23-year old MArch Architecture Student studying and living in Canterbury, England.

This week we have a week in the life submission from Aishwarya Warrier: @thecandidaesthete, a 23-year old MArch Architecture Student studying and living in Canterbury, England.

Would you have tackled the week any differently?

Monday

As a first year M.Arch Student, my weeks are fairly sparse. My Mondays are spent mostly preparing for Tuesday’s Dissertation Tutorials.

Currently, there are submissions coming up so I find it best to stay up to date on tasks and come to these tutorials with as much work as possible in order to get proper useful feedback.

Note from Aliya @archistudentnotes: We are starting off strong this week with something that every student needs to know. Tutorials are the the only way you are going to get useful feedback. Go to them whether you have the work or not. I know some tutors are not helpful in this situation and this may discourage you, but get the feedback on the work you have or at least the ideas for future work!

Tuesday

Tuesday’s dissertation sessions start at 10am and end around 1pm. These sessions usually start with a lecture from our tutors and eventually move on to individual or group tutorials based on that week’s task.

Since our days at University are quite long and exhausting, it’s only fair to spend the rest of the day with friends.

Wednesday

Wednesdays are mostly free, with respect to classes. As adults, we are required to manage our own time and complete the tasks given to us accordingly.

Note from Aliya @archistudentnotes: This is something to consider as a student at university. Most if not all universities will require you to manage your own time but some will have more contact time than others which puts a little less on you. Figure out what is best for you!

I like to spend my Wednesdays recovering from the previous day and planning out the tasks I have to complete for the rest of the week.

Thursday

I spend my Thursdays going through the list I made the previous day and following through.

Our University conducts lectures almost every week by several architects from outside of the university on various different topics. My evenings are spent attending them, that is if I don’t have any submissions on Friday.

Friday

Every Friday is Studio day!

Aliya @archistudentnotes: I can feel the excitement of the Studio Day in every ArchiWeek I read :)

These sessions are dedicated to our project and we are currently on our second project of the year. Sessions start at 10am and can go on until 4pm or later.

So far, we have had group discussions, presentations, individual site analysis on our chosen site and individual discussions about our own project with our tutor. These days end late and can be quite tiring as well, so hanging out with friends on a Friday evening usually depends on how convincing they are.

NOTE FROM THE WRITER

With the winter break coming up and university submissions hovering over our heads, things can get quite stressful.

So, to all my fellow archi-students, Hang in there! We’re in this together! :)

And that’s the week!
