Week in the life of a 22-year old Architecture Student living in Mumbai, India

Written by Latte, Edited by Aliya @archistudentnotes

This week we have a week in the life submission from Latte, an Architecture Student living and studying in Mumbai, India. An interesting read taking us through the very relatable struggles of studying architecture.

Would you have tackled the week any differently?

Monday

Overwhelmed. Went an entire weekend without doing any work, just house work. Didn't complete my portfolio, AD design nothing.

Monday morning came as a bag of rocks when I saw and heard others talk about their work. Guilt ate away and I skipped college.

Note from Aliya @archistudentnotes: I have seen this in so many students and whilst I completely understand it, I would not recommend! Skipping college/uni just puts you further and further behind. No matter your progress, go in and talk to someone.

Tuesday

Saw my bestfriends work and heard everyone talk about the portfolios they had made.

Wednesday

When asked to list all previous work, I realised that I had no work to show.

All semesters I have just pushed through and only scraped enough to pass.

Now everything has piled up while I sit away time on drama series’.

Note from Aliya @archistudentnotes: Have 100% been at this point, my series of choice was Scandal, game of choice Sims 4. It is so easy to become overewhelmed with work if you don’t have the support or don’t stay on top of things. If things have got to this stage for you get in touch or book a session with me.

Thursday

Switched mentors because they didn't want to discuss my project with me anymore. Said that I was too carefree and never worked.

Moral went down while I made promises about completing work I am not sure I can.

The current design brief sounds overwhelming and don't know where to start from.

Friday

Friday seemed to be a good day until my father questioned if me getting into architecture was even a good idea.

And that’s the week!

Thank you so much to Latte for this weeks submission. Unfortunately not a very positive week in this world of architecture but definitely a week that a lot of us can relate to. The cycle of feeling overwhelmed, leading to procrastination and falling behind with your work to feeling overwhelmed to falling further behind is hard to get out of but we all need to find our way to get out and get on a better path.
