Week in the life of a 20-year old 3rd year Architecture Student living in England

This ArchiWeek we have a week in the life submission from a 20-year old 3rd year Architecture Student living and studying in England.

Would you have tackled the week any differently?

Monday

It’s still Christmas break at the moment so in the mornings I work part time as a retail assistant.

When I got home this week, the results from our design studio submission had been released and I was very pleased with the result.

Tuesday

Trying to have a break while I can around work but as it’s coming up to the end of my time at university I've been looking into companies I want to apply for.

Note from Aliya @archistudentnotes: Finding the balance between doing the work and ensuring you take enough breaks to have the energy to do the work can be a constant battle unless you have a system.

I don’t have a good system which means I have breaks every so often but when it has gotten to a place of absolute need, rather than addressing the issue before it even becomes one.

Wednesday

Time to update my portfolio following my most recent design project, this was probably one of my favourites focusing on creating a space for the Homeless so I'm trying to give it a key space in my portfolio.

Note from Aliya @archistudentnotes: Excellent work keeping your portfolio updated as you go, this saves so much time!

Thursday

Taking some time to do some model making today as I received some intricate displays for Christmas. It was fun to build something for myself and attempt wiring in lights for the first time! Reminded me of why I liked model making so much in the first place, the rush of university can ruin it sometimes.

Note from Aliya @archistudentnotes: Finding time for yourself is great but finding time for yourself where you remember your love for something that has become a chore, is bliss.

Friday

The week of work and portfolio development has made me very tired so I take a break at the end of the week. Going straight from full time uni back into a job over Christmas left little room for rest so it's important I remind myself to slow down when I have a chance.

NOTE FROM THE WRITER

My typical week at uni is 2 days on campus and 3 days off, which works for me as a commuter and someone that likes to work from home. I tend to got to work 7-12am, have lunch and then work through to 9 at night when possible. These are longer days but enable me an extra day of rest!

And that’s the week!

Thank you so much to our anonymous writer from England for this weeks submission! A busy week working to earn some extra money and working on their portfolio to get money down the line!

Any tips or advice for our writer, please leave them in the comment section below!
