Tips for your first day of Architecture

Simple to follow, easy to remember

Yesterday was the first day of my Part 3 course, the beginning of the end you could say, and I was so unprepared for what was my first day of university for quite awhile! 😳

I was nervous knowing I was heading I to a new university to meet new people and start something new! Reminded me that a lot of you might be feeling the same so I thought I’d share some tips that could make your first day that little bit easier! 😊. . (My day went really well if you’re wondering!!) . . . . . .

Plan your journey

You don’t want to be the student sneaking in late with that excuse when you have all of freshers week to sort it. Plan how to get literally from your flat/room door to the front door if your lecture/seminar/studio room.

Have the right Equipment

You don’t need a huge amount of equipment but there are essential items to have for your first day which will come everyday things soon enough. I have an equipment list that’s free download if you’re interested!

Introduce Yourself

The best way to get to know your student cohort and get involved is to introduce yourself. Don’t wait for others to invite you in, get yourself into the conversation, everyone is pretty much in the same boat!

Be Yourself

University can be a place to ‘reinvent’ yourself but make sure you’re still being you. You don’t need the extra to keep up appearances whilst trying to navigate new situations. Be yourself, voice your opinion and stick up for what you believe in!

Listen and Absorb

You are going to have a lot of information thrown at you not only on your first day but for at least a couple of weeks as you settle in so try and absorb as much as you can. Find your way of ensuring the information doesn’t just bounce off, it actually gets in and stays in.

Whether its your first ever day at university or the first day of your 6th year of University (Architecture is long) I wish you the best of luck and please do not hesitate to contact me if you need help!
